JAPANESE SWIMSUIT GIRLS – Meiji Era Bathing Beauties of Old Japan (20)

Image by Okinawa Soba (In Asia and Africa until August)
This photo of Geisha Girls in swimsuits wound up in at least one photo album soon after it was photographed in the early 19th Century. No, I don’t have the old album. But (to my amazement) I stumbled across another old photograph of a famous Geisha from the Meiji-Taisho era, and she was looking at the same photo seen above. Due to the crop of the Geisha holding the album, the bathing suit girls cut cut off almost along the line of the oar they are holding…plus, the postcard is seen upside-down. But…there it is never-the-less. Go take a look at the flickr pic here: www.flickr.com/photos/24443965@N08/2348885566/

Really nice photo- i think some of these photo’s could possibly be from the early taisho period as the girls particular hairstyle was particularly popular during the taisho period, but i’m not totally certain on this
.
You might be right. Some of these postcards had dates (postmarks and manuscript) ranging from 1906-1915. So at the latter end, they would be TAISHO-era pics. But…that’s only 4 years into Taisho, and didn’t want to split the groups. Ha! I should just title everything MEIJI-TAISHO ERA BATING BEAUTIES…..and let it go at that !
Actually, I had mentioned this Meiji-Taisho thing in the opening description of the flickr SET that can be clicked on. Maybe most visitors don’t click on the SET button, so would miss those comments.
